As an award-winning wildlife conservation park known for its immersive visitor experiences, Moonlit Sanctuary is seeking a passionate and capable Keeper to join its Avian team. This is an opportunity to contribute to the care, welfare and conservation of Australian birdlife while helping deliver outstanding visitor experiences through keeper talks, encounters, shows and other public interactions.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake animal husbandry, feeding, enrichment, training and conditioning activities in line with Moonlit Sanctuary procedures.
- Monitor animal behaviour, health and welfare, escalating concerns where required.
- Maintain and improve enclosures, including cleaning, maintenance and safety checks.
- Support conservation breeding programs and animal care activities as directed.
- Engage visitors through keeper talks, animal encounters and presentations that inspire conservation action.
About you
You will bring a genuine passion for wildlife, conservation and the environment, along with strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. You will be comfortable speaking with visitors, working outdoors in all weather conditions, and meeting the physical requirements of the role.
Essential requirements
- A strong commitment to wildlife conservation.
- Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline, such as zoology, conservation biology or a related scientific field.
- Certificate III in Wildlife and Exhibited Animal Care or equivalent or willingness to enrol.
- A qualified keeper with work experience in animal husbandry and conservation breeding programs for native wildlife, with a particular focus on avian species.
- An understanding and commitment to the 5 domains model of animal welfare.
- An understanding of the importance of hygiene and biosecurity.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, preferably with Zoological Information Management System (ZIMS) familiarity.
- Confidence with computer software and cloud-based applications including Microsoft office and collaboration software.
- The ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as on your own.
- Satisfactory background checks including a National Police Record Check, current Employee Victorian Working with Children Check, the right to work in Australia and a driver’s licence.
Desirable
- Experience working in a zoo or wildlife park.
- Specialist qualifications in animal training, microchipping, venomous snake handling or another related field.
