We are looking for a hardworking, practical and motivated person to join our team in a dual Zookeeper / Maintenance role. This position would suit someone with a strong farming, rural or trade background who enjoys physical outdoor work, operating machinery and being part of a fast-paced animal facility. This is a very hands-on role. Successful applicants will be expected to complete animal keeping duties in the mornings, followed by maintenance and property work throughout the afternoons.
Daily responsibilities include:
- Feeding animals and preparing diets
- Cleaning animal enclosures and completing daily husbandry tasks
- Grounds maintenance and mowing
- Operating machinery including bobcats and wood chippers
- Weed spraying and general property upkeep
- Assisting with enclosure construction and repairs
- Truck driving and transport tasks
- Knackery work and handling animal feed products
- Manual handling and physical outdoor labour in all weather conditions
Essential skills and experience:
- Practical experience in farming, rural work, maintenance or similar industries
- Confidence using machinery and power tools
- Ability to work independently and problem solve
- Strong work ethic and willingness to get stuck in
- Current driver’s licence
- Physically fit and comfortable with demanding outdoor work
Highly regarded:
- Previous zoo keeping or animal industry experience
- Bobcat or machinery tickets
- Truck licence
- Welding/fabrication experience
- Chemical handling or weed spraying experience
