Clinic Veterinarian - Part Time

The Position

This is an outstanding opportunity to be part of an exciting new zoo in the role of Clinical Veterinarian, utilising your skills in an area that you are genuinely passionate about. This role will commence as soon as possible and includes some weekend and public holidays.

The Clinical Veterinarian will be responsible for holistic preventative animal health care, taking a leading role in the veterinary department which provides for the health and welfare of the animals within Sydney Zoo’s collection. This position will play a leadership role in the veterinary department and be a member of the Senior Animal Care Team while being responsible for maintaining and managing relationships with Universities, Veterinary Faculties, and local veterinary referral centres.  

Skills, Knowledge and Relevant Experience

  • Tertiary qualifications in Veterinary Medicine and current registration with the NSW Veterinary Board of practitioners.
  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience in a zoo or relevant/equivalent veterinary industry experience.
  • Previous experience in large animal or mixed animal practice
  • Experience in zoo animal practice, not essential but would be advantageous
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Driver's license and the ability to drive a manual vehicle (preferable).
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a small team including setting directions, monitoring work, supervising staff.
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft applications, familiarity with record systems, such as ZIMS and web-based research.
  • NSW Tranquiliser Firearm Permit.
  • Prohibited Weapons Permit for Blowpipe.
  • First Aid Certification (desirable)
  • Firearms License (desirable).
  • NSW Category A & B Firearms License (desirable).
